Third Open Letter to Rahul Gandhi, Indian National Congress Party

Rahul Gandhi risks a jail term; George Fernandes during 1977 General Elections[i]

Respected Sir,

We had sent two open letters to you which were published in Countercurrents.org on 11/06/2017 and 23/03/2023. In the first we had requested you to undertake a padyatra from Kashmir to Kanyakumari; in the second letter we had urged that a public declaration be made that you would not be a candidate for Prime Ministership in 2024 General Election. Both the issues have got addressed.

Millions of Indians must have had similar thoughts as expressed in the two pieces. Thousands may have voiced similar sentiments to your good self in writing. If only you could address one public meeting of each of the constituent members of the alliance during electioneering in 2024 it would generate such oppositional energies which could dismantle the present day rulers at the centre. Of course if you, Sir, are thrown in prison in the defamation case by a pliant judiciary while 2024 elections are on the horizon you should still campaign from the jail for the opposition alliance to succeed. A poster of your image behind the bars would be an apt message to the voters – a la image of George Fernandes with shackled hands during the elections after the Emergency was over.

Yours sincerely,

P. S. Sahni & Shobha Aggarwal
