To
Hon’ble The Acting Chief Justice and his companion
judges,
High Court of Delhi,
Sher Shah Road,
New Delhi
Subject: Request for Scheduling Ceremonial Functions before or after Court Working Hours in the Interest of Judicial Efficiency
Hon’ble Sirs,
On 30.10.2026, a function
commemorating 60 years of the Delhi High Court was held, on account of which
judicial work was suspended after 12:30 p.m. No prior intimation regarding the
event or the suspension of judicial work was reflected in the cause list. As a
result, litigants and lawyers, many of whom had travelled long distances and made arrangements to attend
court, were put to considerable inconvenience.
Such functions, when conducted during
court working hours, also result in the loss of valuable judicial time and
contribute to the accumulation of pendency, which is already a matter of
serious concern.
It is, therefore, most respectfully
requested that ceremonial functions, including but not limited to swearing-in
ceremonies, farewell references, condolence references, and other similar
events, be held before or after court hours, so that regular judicial work is
not disrupted and inconvenience to litigants and lawyers is avoided.
Thanks,
Yours sincerely,
Secretary,
