I refer to the news item-which appeared in G Plus (Guwahati plus, an e-paper, reported to be Guwahati’s foremost media network; founded in 2013.) The news-item dated March 29, 2024 is titled “Now UN Steps In, Calls for Free and Fair Elections In India.” Quote:
“The United Nations has weighed in amidst the escalating tensions surrounding the opposition parties in India, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles ahead of the country’s parliamentary elections.
… the United Nations expressed its hope for a free and fair electoral process in India, where all citizens can exercise their right to vote without hindrance.
… spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was quoted saying, “What we very much hope that in India, … everyone’s rights are protected, including political and civil rights, and everyone is able to vote in an atmosphere that is free and fair.”
This is the right moment to urge the United Nations for Electoral Assistance in the form of observation and supervision for the upcoming General Elections, 2024 in India.
